Fishing Report 3/2/12

Friday, February 03, 2012 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey guys,

Here goes for this week's fishing report.

Moruya River -

Unfortunately due to the poor weather lately, there's not much to report in any of the systems lately.  However, when the weather did permit, Tackle World Moruya members Nathan and Justine squeezed in a rewarding session of bream, whiting, flathead, and luderick in the backwaters.  VIP member Jimmy also reports large catches of mullet, bream and whiting.  As always, the whiting are hitting the live beach worms hard and if you're a lure fisher, you can't go past a popper session.  The bream remain responsive to Cameons, however the old faithful SX40s are as successful as ever if you prefer to stick to what you know.

Tuross -

Tackle World Moruya member Mark reports the system is fishing best around the oyster leases and in the snags.  The leases are your best bet for the bream, which are responding best to Cranksters cast right up into framework.  Be careful not to cast too far and get stuck however, so if you're taking the kids out you might want to teach them how to control their casting first.  If it's the flathead you're after, try a combination of Strada Piccolas and soft plastics to get a feel for what the fish are hitting hardest.  The whiting are probably the most predictable of the lot, with almost guaranteed success on live beach worms sold exclusively by Tackle World Moruya.

Beaches and Rocks -

The pick of the beaches currently is arguably the gutter at Goulbourn workers, which is providing the opportunistic beach fisho with a great chance for some memorable catches.  There's plenty of salmon rewarding anyone who throws out Arma Twisties, which will also attract the tailor.  The whiting are again responding best to live beach worms, so either catch some while you're there or buy a tub in store.  The beach worms will also catch bream, as will cubed pilchards.

Offshore -

Captain Ron aboard Winda Woppa I and II reports that before the weather turned foul, large kingfish, mowies and pigfish were being caught on live fish bait.  Extra large nannygai and wera are also hitting fish bait and squid, with some less substantial ling in the mix.  All of the above were found in 57m of water, at a 21.3 degrees water temperature.  If it is the large kingfish you're after, first head out off Moruya heads in close and stock up on slimies for live bait.  Due to the mild currents, it is advised that you use a sea anchor.  Also in close around Pedro Point are the snapper, which are hitting the soft plastics hard.  Off the shelf, there are plenty of marlin looking to show you a fantastic fight.

Now in stock -

Now in stock at Tackle World Moruya is a full range of Dogtooth fluro-carbon leader, so head in store to secure your purchase.

Fishing Report 27/1/12

Friday, January 27, 2012 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey guys,

Here goes for this week's fishing report.

Moruya River -

The Bridge has been fishing extremely well during the night, with large flathead and perch attracted to 100mm Red Rum Squidgy Wrigglers.  Tackle World Moruya members Nathan and Justine had a very successful session for bream on poppers along the Rockwall and perch around the boulders.  Garland town provided Tackle World Moruya members Mark, Angus and Nelly with numerous catches of whiting, which responded best to live beach worms.  If it's the luderick you're after, throwing out some greed weed at the Hole in the Wall is your best bet.

Tuross -

The shallow water around the flats is providing large amounts of flathead and whiting (being caught on beach worms); however, the sizes are in the majority below legal, so best to get your ruler out if you're fishing for dinner.  When fishing the deeper holes, both bait and soft plastics are proving very effective for jewfish.  Around the back of the system, if you're fishing for bream it's best to cast SX40's and Crankstas into the snags.  Tackle World Moruya members Nathan and Justine continue to use Crankas and Cameons successfully to reel in large catches of bass up the river.

Rocks and Beaches -

The ever-present salmon remain in the gutters on the beaches, responding best to salted pilchards and live beach worms.  Tackle World Moruya member John reports that Congo beach is fishing quite well for whiting on beach worms, however, the bream have been consistently small - so it's best to throw these ones back.  Casting around the rock wall will reward you with tailor, which are hitting metal slices.  If you're hungry for some salt and pepper squid throw out some UV Blast Squid Jigs off Congo and prepare for a fantastic seafood dinner!

Offshore -

Captain Ron aboard Winda Woppa I and II reports the larger kingfish are being caught around the 50m of water mark off the bottom on live bait and squid.  In a bit closer at the 25m mark, snapper up to 5kg are hitting fish bait and Lucanus jigs early in the morning - the early fisho catches the snapper, as they generally go off the bite as the sun rises higher in the sky.  Back out in the deep - 60m of water - the pigfish and extra large nannygai are responding best to fish bait, pilchards and squid.  Tackle World Moruya VIP member Spider reports large kingfish are responding best to live bait off Pedro.  As there is a mild current running the use of a sea anchor is advisable.

Good luck -

Tackle World Moruya wishes good luck to the competitors of the Southern Squidgy Bream Series, of which Tackle World Moruya is proud to be a major sponsor.

Tight lines,

Fishing Report 20/1/12

Friday, January 20, 2012 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey guys,

Here goes for this week's fishing report.

Moruya River -

Down the front of the river is fishing well for the flathead, which have been up to a metre long.  Also down the front, the tailor is responding best to Armor Metal Twisties and the trevaley are hitting the bait pretty hard, specifically prawns.  If you're fishing off the rock wall, throw out some cubed pilchards to attract the bream, which are in both decent number and size.  The whiting, as usual, are around the hospital flat, striking both surface lures such as poppers and live beach worms.  Around the bridge and down to Ryan's Creek, Strada Piccolas are attracting nice sized flathead.

Tuross -

Tackle World Moruya VIP member Ben had a fantastic session in Tuross this week, catching 6 bream and 6 flathead on Squidgy Blood Worm Wrigglers.  Down the front of the system, Tackle World Moruya members John and Shirley have been consistently bringing in substantial sized whiting on live beach worms (which arrive in store tomorrow!).  If you're fishing around the oyster leases, it's likely you'll be rewarded by some great catches of perch on Cameons.  The bream are hiding in the snags as always, so throw in a Cranka for best measure and you'll be in for some fun.  If it's the flounder you're after, Graham recommends SX40s for these underrated dinner fish.

Beaches and Rocks -

The better gutters - the dark water is a giveaway - from Muramburra to the Windsock are producing well sized salmon.  Tailor are being caught off both the beaches and rocks, with ganged pilchards and metal slices your best bet for success.  Beach worms, as always, will almost guarantee you some brilliant whiting, which are one of the most welcome catches if you're fishing for your dinner.  Squid jigs off Congo rocks are rewarding eager fishermen and women with decent sized squid.

Offshore -

Captain Ron aboard Winda Woppa I and II reports kingfish in the 60m of water mark responding best to River 2 Sea jigs.  The snapper are hitting Shimano Lucanus jigs, however, if it's the mowies and pigfish you're after, it's safest to stick to fish bait and squid.  The nannygai are up to 40cm and again will respond best to fish bait.  In the 10-15m of water mark off Pedro Point, the snapper can't get enough of soft plastics, especially the 6 inch Gulp Flick Baits.  If you're fishing in close, the kingfish are hitting live bait hard.  Towards Potato Point, it's the sharks you're going to find, with gummy sharks the most prolific and bronze whalers and makos making the occasional appearance.  Want to go after the marlin?  Then hit the shelf with skirts and live bait for the fight of your life.

Tackle World VIP Member of the Week -

This week Team Tackle World Moruya send their congratulations to VIP member Spider, who has reported in some fantastic catches of snapper offshore, using pilchards as bait.

Fishing Report 13/1/12

Friday, January 13, 2012 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey guys,

Here goes for this week's fishing report.

Moruya River -

The flathead are large in number up at Yarragee and under the Bridge, but remember if your catch is huge; it's probably an expectant mother so throw her back for another day.  More flathead are around Briley's ramp at Garland town, responding best to Squidgy Wrigglers in the blood worm and fire cracker variety.  If you're floating around the hole in the wall, you're bound to haul in some well sized luderick to reward the keen fisho throwing out some green weed.  If you're hungry for a feed then you're probably after the whiting, which remain around the hospital flat and are chewing their favourite live beach worms.  No matter where in the system you are, the flounder are biting.  Quarry wharf  is still producing some lovely tailor, which are always a fun catch.

Tuross -

Congrats to those kids who got involved in the "Hooked on Fishing" competition last weekend.  Just about everyone walked away with great prizes and a fun weekend was had by all!  If you kids out there haven't yet experienced this comp, you should really check it out as its great fun and you can win some great gear!  Check out Tackle World Moruya's site (www.tackleworldmoruya.com.au) for details on all the comp's activities.

Tackle World members John Snr and John Jnr headed out the other morning for a great session fishing before having to head in because of the wind.  The boys secured some very nice bream as well as tailor and flathead.

Tackle World Moruya member Jade achieved his personal best 82cm flathead on 100ml fire cracker Squidgy Wrigglers, so a congratulations are surely in order!  Meanwhile, Tackle World Moruya member Tom and his cousin Tim participated in the Tuross kid's fishing competition, with Tom winning the title of biggest bream on SX40's.  That feat earned Tom a great Shimano rod and reel combo.

Poppers are proving exceptionally effective, attracting both long toms and whiting.  The whiting are mostly around the front of the system.

Beaches and Rocks -

Tackle World member John Snr headed down to Congo beach with fresh beach worms and was rewarded with numerous catches of salmon, bream, whiting and flathead.   Those fish just love the fresh beach worms!!

If it's the break wall that you're fishing, you're likely to haul in some nice salmon and flathead, which are responding best to salted pilchards.

Offshore -

Captain Ron aboard Winda Woppa I and II reports most of the offshore action happening around the 55-50m of water mark, with pig fish, mowies, nannygai and flathead all being caught on fish and squid bait.  If it's the snapper you're after, the bigger fish are hitting Lucanis jigs hard.  The king fish are responding most to River 2 Sea knife jigs, with reports of kingies over a metre long.

Tackle World VIP Members of the Week -

Tackle World Moruya is starting a monthly draw of gift vouchers to a lucky VIP member.  If the voucher is not collected within the month, the voucher for next month increases in value.  This month's lucky VIP member is Ally, whose VIP number is 2037108.

Fishing Report 5/1/12

Thursday, January 05, 2012 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey guys,

Here goes for this week's fishing report.

Moruya River -

The river remains kind to fishermen and women, with great reports piling into the shop.  Flathead and whiting are still being caught from the hospital flat, with the flathead being caught mostly on shallow diving Cranka Lures.  These lures are fantastic, and as such as walking out the door so you better be quick!  If its whiting you're after, stock up on surface lures, such as Zappers and Squidgy Poppers for the biggest catches over the flats.  If you're around the Quarry wharf and down around Preddy's you'll catch plenty of tailor, but make sure you're an early bird because these fish go deep during daylight hours.  The flounder are everywhere in the river, so pick a spot and sling out some prawns or whitebait. The hole in the wall remains fishing well for luderick, which are also from the Quarry wharf down.

Tuross -

Hey kids!  Get out and have a go at the Tuross 'Hooked on Fishing' comp this weekend.  You can register all weekend and if you're lucky enough to start pulling in the big ones, you might find yourself the winner of Tackle World Moruya prizes!  So start doing the dishes and convince Mum and Dad that they should really take you down and let you get in on the fun.  If its details you're after pick up a flyer from Tackle World Moruya and the staff will be happy to fill you in.  Great catches of flathead, bream and nice sized perch are being had from front to back, with the bass further up in the fresh.  With reports of up to 47cm bass, it seems you don't need to be a kid to have fun in Tuross this weekend! Whiting are also hitting fresh beach worms hard down the front and in quality sizes.

Beaches and Rocks -

Plenty of benito are swimming around the Broulee rocks.  Catch their interest with some Armour metal slices and Twisties for the bigger fish.  Around Goulbourn Workers, the bream, flathead, salmon and tailor are still hitting hard on salted pillies and live beach worms.  The beach worms are squirming right out the door, so make sure you secure your bucket!  Decent sized whiting and salmon are still being pulled in off Broulee beaches.

Offshore -

Captain Ron aboard Winda Woppa I and II joins with Tackle World Moruya in our congratulations to Jack, who is a fishing veteran of 35 years and recently bagged his personal best king fish out in 71 metres of water off Moruya.  Large snapper, mowies and king fish are staying within the 54 metre water mark, which means it's time to throw out your sea anchor!  Be patient however, as all good things take time - which is usually sped up by proper use of some burley.  Out the front of the surf club, around the 12 metre mark, the snapper are responding best to Burkley Gulp 6 inch Nuclear Chicken, with some decent sizes rewarding fishos.  If it's the 30-40 metre mark you're in, it's likely you'll pull in some tiger flathead, fish bait and squid.  Marlin chasers that have ambitions of hitting the shelf should give Ron a call on 0404966607 and book an appointment before they all fill up.

Tackle World VIP Members of the Week -

Congratulations to our VIP Members of the Week Scott and Deano for boating five striped marlin and hooking another three in one incredible morning (and back by one o'clock) on lumo skirts.  Well done boys!

Tackle World Moruya sends their best wishes to Noel, hoping for a speedy recovery and return to the water to fish another day.

Our apologies to customers who have recently tried to contact the shop via phone, as our phone lines our down.  We're battling with the phone companies to ensure you are inconvenienced no longer.  Hopefully we'll be back shortly, but please feel welcome to email us or contact us via our website (www.tackleworldmoruya.com.au) and we will be ever vigilant to respond.

Fishing Report 29/12/11

Thursday, December 29, 2011 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey guys,

Here goes for this week's fishing report.

Moruya River -

The river has been fishing well of late, benefiting both locals and tourists alike.  Flathead and whiting of notable size have been caught from the hospital flat and up, with the flathead attracted to the new Squidgy Pro Range Slick Rigs especially.  The whiting however, prefer a natural approach, responding best to beach worms - the live version of which is sold exclusively by Tackle World Moruya.  The flathead are also around the quarry wharf, however, the tailor are more prolific and are hitting the Armor Twisties and soft plastics the hardest.  If it's the bridge you want to fish, flounder will be your most common catch on white bait.  The hole in the wall is fishing well for luderick, which as always, respond best to green weed.  From the pump station up, the bass are hitting Heddon Crazy Crawlers and Cameons.

Tuross -

Congratulations are in order for Warren, who in the middle of a popper session for whiting was successful in hooking a whiting, only to find his whiting being eaten by a 106cm flathead, leading him to bag both fish (releasing the flathead, of course).  Tricky catches like that, the stuff of fishing legend.  That being said, the system as a whole is fishing extremely well for flathead, and bream also.  The entrance has been providing numerous catches of luderick, again, as in Moruya River, responding best to green weed.  Jew fish are going mad for soft plastics, specifically 110mm White Lightning Squidgies, so it's a good time to practice your retrieve technique.

Rocks and Beaches -

Broulee rocks are providing some kingies on metal slices and squid on UV Blast squid jigs, which are also working well off Congo headland.  Off the wall, the bream, flathead, salmon and tailor are responding best to salted pilchards, with good gutters around the windsock area providing the majority of the salmon.  Decent sized whiting and salmon are also being pulled in off Broulee beaches.

Offshore -

Conditions permitting, Captain Ron aboard Winda Woppa I and II has been pulling in plenty of salmon, snapper, flathead, mowies and nannygai on squid, with some benito on the troll around the headlands.  The occasional gummy shark are hitting fish bait around the 30m of water mark.  The water temperature has been running around a comfortable 20 degrees celcius so all is looking well for a fantastic New Year of fishing!

Tackle World VIP Member of the Week

Congratulations to Tackle World VIP member of the week Gracie, whose dedication to fishing whilst holidaying in Broulee is refreshing from the younger generation. You go girl!

Happy New Year to all, and remember, everyday's a good day for fishing!

Fishing Report, 23/12/11

Friday, December 23, 2011 by tackleworldmoruya

Moruya, Tuross and Surrounding Estuaries

Moruya river is seeing nice luderick around the "hole in the wall" off green weed or freshly pumped nippers.  Good size bream are being caught over the weed beds using shallow diving Strada Piccolas.  Head up around the hospital for some good size flathead which run right down the system to Ryan's Creek using soft plastics, in particular Squidgy Wriggler and Gulp 4" Swimming Mullet in Pumpkinseed.

Tuross has seen some nice whiting being caught on Gulp 2" Shrimp in the Nuclear Chicken colour.  Tackle World members Jade and Tom had some great fun during the week catching good size bream using the new Gladiator "Bingo's" in both deep and shallow divers, as well as some nice flathead on Squidgy Wrigglers 120 mm Red Rum with Tom landing his personal best at 80 cm which after a quick "snap" was released back into the system to continue breeding.

 Rocks and Beaches

Big salmon are being brought in from the Windsock down to Potato Point using ganged pillies and Arma Twisties with most of these Salmon being around the 3 kg size, so they are lots of fun to catch!  Good numbers of bream and whiting are also being caught in the "gutters" using fresh beach worms, with drummer and tailor being brought in off the rocks using a mixture of cunji and pilchards.

Offshore

Capt Ron onboard Winda Woppa I and II reports a water temperature of 19.5 degrees celcius.  For best results Ron tells us to head out into the 40-55 metre mark where he secured catches of large tiger flathead, snapper using Shimano Lucanas Jigs, big pigfish, kingies, gummy sharks and mowies off squid and bait fish.  Ron also landed an Eastern Fox Fish (similar to a pigfish to look at, but prettier) which apparently is very pleasing to the palate.  All fish were caught on the gravel patches.  To secure your spot for a great day on the water over the up-coming Christmas period give Ron a ring on 0404966607 as bookings are essential.

Meanwhile Team Tackle World members Dean and Scott headed straight off Moruya to land themselves a very nice 110 kg blue Marlin on a Super  Lumo Saury.  The Marlin was tagged and released!

Friday, November 25, 2011 by tackleworldmoruya

Moruya, Tuross and Surrounding Estuaries

Good catches of bream, flathead, whiting and tailor are being caught down the front of these systems.  Most are being caught on shallow diving lures with Tackle World members Mark and Daniel having some great sessions on surface lures . Tackle World member Paul is currently down from Canberra for a week or so and so far is having a great time catching and releasing  all species including some great estuary perch in areas where he has never found them before.  Nathan and Justine have been playing with the Bass also with some pretty good results although you'll have to comein store and ask him for his secret spots.  Tried and tested SX 40's and Jazz Zappa's are working a treat.

Rocks and Beaches

The salmon have been a bit of a hit and miss on the beaches this week  but down around the Bingi-Coila area when the schools come in they have been there in big numbers.  Some whiting and bream are being caught in the gutters especially around the windsock area.  Remember best bait for these species is LIVE Beach worms which we have available in store every Friday morning - but be sure to be quick because they don't last long (or ring and place an order to secure your supply).

Offshore

Capt Ron onboard Winda Woppa I and II reports a water temperature of 19.6 degrees celcius .  With this warmer water comes good catches of snapper in the 40m mark using squid as bait.  Ron has also caught  large mowies and great tiger flathead also using squid plus fish bait out in 45 to 50 metres of water, with gummy sharks also out in that area over the sand.  To secure your spot for a great day on the water over the up-coming Christmas period give ring Ron a ring on 0404966607 as  bookings are essential.

Fishing Report, 4/11/11

Friday, November 04, 2011 by tackleworldmoruya

Hey Guys - once again the weather has been a little bit topsy-turvy, but the forecast is good and its a beautiful day today.  Here goes for this weeks report.

 Moruya, Tuross and Surrounding Estuaries

Good catches of flathead are being had throughout both Moruya and Tuross on soft plastics such as Squidgy Evil Minnow Wrigglers 100mm or Gulp 3" Nuclear Chicken Flickbaits - both tried and tested time and time again to prove their effectiveness!

With the warm weather here surface poppers are the go for your bream and whiting in the shallows  - try throwing around either Sebile Splashers, Stiffy poppers or Instinct 5-piece popper packs.  Once again good feeds are coming out of both systems.

That school of salmon is still in Tuross so you can have a bit of fun with them as well.

With one eye on the barometer and the other watching flying ants everywhere and an impending storm in the distance Team Tackle World members John Snr, Graham and John Jnr headed out in the canoe for a go at Bass in the upper reaches of Tuross.  Great fun was had, Bass were caught and released and it was a huge effort paddling back to the car soaking wet and surrounded by full graphite rods with lightning abounding all over  - we did however have fun!!

 Beaches and Rocks

Meringo is seeing excellent catches of salmon off ganged pillies or Arma Twisty's, with Racecourse also seeing nice catches of bream.  Team Tackle World member Nathan enjoyed a good session off Pedro beach the other day scoring some lovely whiting off fresh beach worms.

Offshore

Captain Ron onboard Winda Woppa I and II reports the current water temperature running at 18 degrees celcius.  Ron headed straight off Moruya into the 50 metre mark to enjoy good catches of extra large sand and tiger flathead, gummy sharks, big pigfish, with some nice plate size mowies and nannygai thrown in as well.  Ron then headed out into the 60-70 metre mark to enjoy good catches of kingies up to 1 metre in size.

If its whales you're interested in, then there's plenty of them frolicking around at the moment.

Specials this week include Shimano Brutus Jig Sticks for $125.00, as well as Power Surf 12' full graphite beach rods to clear at $125.00 while stocks last.

Don't forget that fresh beach worms are once again back in stock each week - they  don't last long, so either ring to secure your  tub or head in early!

For those adventurers out there now is a good time to lay-by your archery gear for Christmas - its not that far away!!

Have a great weeks fishing everyone and remember "everydays a good day for fishing ... "
