Hey guys, here goes for this week's fishing report
Moruya River - Moruya River is on fire at the moment!
Great catches from the front of the system to the back of bream,
whiting and flathead being caught on 3 inch Gulp Ghost Shrimp as
well as live beach worms. A school of tailor are calling the
front of the river, below Preddy's Wharf home, with the lure of
choice being metal slices, or for the bait fishermen - salted
pilchards. Reports have come in of large bass, up to 44cm up
the back of the river being caught on Halco Nanos and Mimic
baits.
Turros Lakes - Huge numbers of flathead, bream and whiting are
being had down around the main lake on both Squidgie Pro Poddys,
Gulp Nuclear Chicken Minnows and Gillies Surface Poppers around the
edges. Large perch are responding well to SX40's in the snags
up river, with the bass further up in the fresh water hitting the
Cicada Mimic Baits hard.
Rocks and Beaches - Plenty of whiting and bream are swimming
around the gutters on most local beaches, with the bait of choice
being live beach worms - call in to secure your tub as they are
squirming out the door at a great rate. The salmon are
gradually slowing down, however if you throw out some pilchards
you'll still be rewarded with the larger catches.
Offshore - Captain Ron from Winda Woppa Fishing Charters reports
prolific catches of snapper, mowies, extra large nannygai,
kingfish, tiger flathead, large chinamen jackets and sea perch
around the 70m mark all responding best to tuna fillets.
Yesterday, Ron found at the 80m mark a warm current of 24 degrees
where a great session was had on yellow fin and striped tuna with
the larger catches estimated at around 40kg on Jet Setter Lures in
the Burple and Pilchard colours. Further out, over the shelf,
local boys had a successful outing, getting smashed on 24kg gear by
large marlin estimated over 200kg with plenty of yellow fin tuna in
the mix again, trolling skirts to find the fish.
Team Tackle World Moruya would like to wish all the locals and
visiting tourists a happy and safe New Year with tight lines all
round.
